Early detection of breast cancer gives the best chance of survival. It is important to keep a look out for any changes to your breast.
Breast Awareness
Be familiar with your breasts so that you’re alert of any changes that might occur. If you experience any symptoms such as lumps, dimples, discharge or discolouration, head to your doctor for further examination. It’s also important to remember that finding a lump doesn’t mean that you have cancer; most lumps are benign (not cancer). So, don’t panic if you do find a change, make an appointment with your doctor for further evaluation.
Mammograms
Mammograms are an x-ray picture of your breasts. They are checked by a radiographer for any abnormalities. Free mammograms are available for all women over 40, every 2 years. Let breast cancer awareness month be your reminder to book a mammogram. Speak to your doctor about breast screening. Alternatively you can book online www.health.gov.au/bsa or phone Breast Screen on 13 20 50
