Vaccinations For Locals and Businesses in Brisbane South
Vaccination Programs
Now a Yellow Fever registered clinic, Salisbury Medical Centre can administer both overseas and local vaccinations for your convenience. Visit our clinic by appointment. Our practice nurse can also visit businesses to immunise your work force, by arrangement. Our immunisations include:
- Seasonal flu
- Travel vaccinations
- Yellow fever
- Q Fever
- Childhood vaccinations
- Tetanus
- Hepatitis
- RSV vaccinations (adults only)
Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Programs should be performed in March/April, as the vaccines take up to two weeks to become effective. Unfortunately, the virus changes each year, thus, vaccinations are required at 12 monthly intervals. This restores your body’s defence against Influenza and drastically reduces the severity of the symptoms that you develop, ultimately reducing the chance of a hospital visit.
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common cause of respiratory illness. A single dose vaccine is recommended by ATAGI for all adults over 75 years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples aged over 60 years and any adults over 60 years with medical conditions that increase the risk of severe disease due to RSV. This vaccine is available by private prescription only, at a cost of $350. Our GPs are able to provide a prescription for collection from a pharmacy and our nurses will administer for you.
All infants born from 1 February 2024 are eligible for a free RSV immunisation. Eligible infants that were not immunised in hospital at the time of birth are able to present to Queensland Children's Hospital - Level 2 (next to Pharmacy). It is a drop in clinic open Monday to Friday 8am-4pm. Please note that Salisbury Medical Centre is not able to provide this immunisation.
The National Immunisation Program schedule outlines the routine childhood immunisations recommended for all children in Australia. Children can receive these vaccines free as long as they are on a Medicare Card or are eligible for one. Please make and appointment with your GP.
Meanwhile, before travelling overseas, it’s important to check as soon as possible if you need a travel vaccination, and if so, we can administer this for you. Your travel vaccinations and consultation are not covered by Medicare so these will be out of pocket expenses for you. Our consultation charge is $80 for appointments Monday to Friday.
We also offer worksite vaccinations, where we come to the work site and provide immunisation for staff members as well as a bunch of other occupational medical checks and services.
