Why will our practice ask you if you are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin?

Improving health outcomes for our indigenous Australians
Identifying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients makes a difference to our clinical care. The vaccination recommendations are different, preventive care interventions are often different and are recommended at younger ages. Those patients who choose to identify will benefit from access to appropriate services such as health assessments and pharmaceutical benefits.
Closing the Gap Health Campaign
The Close the Gap Campaign aims to close the health and life expectancy gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians within a generation.
If you identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australian, we can help you register with Medicare for Closing the Gap benefits. Eligible patients can get their medicine at the concession price. Or, if they have a concession or health care card, their medicine will be free. Your health team at Salisbury Medical Centre can help you do this.
ATSI Health Check
This assessment is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders of all ages. It aims to make sure that all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders receive healthcare that meets their needs. It allows for access to cheaper or free medication and access to a lot of health services to help improve the health and well-being of those patients involved.
